Navigating Emotions (NEmo-P)
For Parents
Empowering parents to support and navigate their child’s and their own emotions more effectively.
Being a parent is one of the toughest jobs on the planet. We get it - you get no training or probation period, have to deal with constant worrying and a steep learning curve and there are no days off - it is a lifelong commitment. It doesn’t help that the world looks very different from when you were growing up and is messier now more than ever. Big, challenging and complex feelings are what you and your child probably feel or will feel down the road.
The NEmo for Parents programme, part of the NEmo series, was created to empower parents to be smarter with their feelings by developing essential EQ competencies and enabling them to cope and thrive alongside their children.
Unlike existing mental wellbeing training, this programme goes into the root of emotions, helping individuals to understand how emotions drive our decisions, and how can we be aware of our emotions and navigate through different emotions and conversations.
Parents who are keen to support their children’s emotional growth, resilience and well-being.

Why join the NEmo for Parents programme?
Mental health challenges are rising among youths but there are insufficient preventative resources
1 in 3 youths (aged 15 to 35) reported very poor mental health in Singapore, experiencing symptoms such as feeling empty, tense, or upset most of the time.
The majority of existing solutions focus on manifested mental health symptoms (e.g. awareness of mental health symptoms) and adopt an intervention approach (eg. counselling/therapy).
There is a lack of preventative solutions to scale up emotional resilience before symptoms develop.
Parents are at increased risk of burnout and are struggling to support children’s social emotional learning and resilience
Parents face tremendous stress at each of their children’s life stages. 3 in 20 or up to 14% of parents are at risk of parental burnout.
Parents, particularly those at risk of burnout, are not well-equipped to support children’s social-emotional development or mental health challenges.

Informed by years of youth work experience, we found the best way to develop mental well-being and resilience goes beyond an individual approach and starts with creating holistic and inclusive environments where youths are supported in all facets of their lives. The key environments where the majority of youths spend most time include their schools and homes.
Hence, Bettr Lives strives to build supportive and inclusive environments, both in school and at home, through its NEmo programme series. Ultimately, we hope to empower youths to be emotionally resilient in coping with life challenges, foster positive relationships, nurture compassion and enable them to be well-adjusted in their adulthood.

About the Navigating Emotions (NEmo) series:
Our Approach
Our philosophies and programmes are grounded in the 6 Seconds model of Emotional Intelligence, which refers to the capacity to blend thinking and feeling to make optimal decisions and it is critical to having a successful relationship with yourself and others.
To provide a practical and accessible way to learn and practise emotional intelligence, Six Seconds developed a three-part model as a process – an action plan for using emotional intelligence in daily life.
This model of EQ-in-Action begins with three important pursuits: to become more aware (noticing what you do), more intentional (doing what you mean), and more purposeful (doing it for a reason).
As a preferred partner of Six Seconds in Singapore, we adopt their framework and utilise the scientifically validated and credible assessments to empower our participants to understand and build their emotional intelligence through actionable steps.
